Templeman Design were appointed to conceptualise and detail a cost effective activity space independent from the existing school building. The building has been designed based upon the limitations of modular sections and the limitations of the budget. The building form has been generated to provide a large open space for the main activity area with separate storage space. A lobby for the storage of coats and bags has also been provided at the entrance to providing a functional facility. The challenge was to provide a cost effective solution with delivery for the new 2013 school term, while achieving a functional space. This was achieved with the ingenuity of space with the inclusion of an external performance space for spring summer events, and selection of appropriate construction method, which in this case was modular. Current modular building standards not only provide high performing thermal properties with well finished products in controlled environments, but they also assist with programme. In this case the project was designed and constructed in time for the new school term.
”The team have provided an amazing facility to time and budget, Lesley was ecstatic about the building. Again many thanks for the outstanding effort over the summer”. – Andrew Bennett Cambridge County Council
